How A Cartridge Refill Can Save You Money

Cartridge refill options allow you to top up the ink in your printer without the need to buy another plastic cartridge. There can be several advantages to this, from the price savings you can make to the fact that you will be keeping more plastic out of landfill sites. If you find the right ink supplier, you can save substantial amounts of money on an ongoing basis.

The inkjet printer has become the printer of choice for large numbers of small businesses, charities, or individuals. Anyone who does not have to process large numbers of copies for everything they print will probably save money by using an inkjet printer, although there are practical alternatives. The laser printers will be more expensive to buy at the start, but their replacement supplies are often cheaper. Beware the cheap laser printer which appears to solve all of your problems, as the reason it is cheap is because of the soft drum inside which will only have a limited life. The expense of replacing parts on an ongoing basis makes the seemingly cheap buy expensive by comparison. Inkjet printers are now firmly enough established for the technology to be relatively reliable.

The inkjet printer works by directing ink onto the paper from two separate cartridges. The cartridge which contains black ink is simple in its operation, and as it only has one color of ink it also makes for an easy printer cartridge refill. The colored cartridge has to be more complex because it contains ink of all three primary colors, which will often need to be used together to create another color or shade. This creates extra problems for inkjet cartridge refills, as there can be pockets of trapped air which can lead to ink not being expelled at the right time.

The printer manufacturers are not keen on those who seek to refill inkjet cartridges, because it interferes with their profitable business model. These manufacturers often try to undercut their competition by bringing printers to market at the lowest possible price, on the basis that even if they don't make any profit on the actual printer itself they will make plenty of profit on the sales of supplies for the printer on an ongoing basis. The theory work well for them until third party suppliers produce cartridges or people have their original cartridges refilled.

The main alternative to a cheap cartridge refill is to buy a cartridge from a third party. This is something which also actively discouraged by the printer manufacturers, who have even brought lawsuits against the companies who offer this solution. The claim that the reverse engineering which is needed to reproduce copies of the original cartridges is a breach of copyright has been rejected by the courts, giving the manufacturers of these third party cartridges a license to compete in an open market. The beneficiary is the consumer, who now has a far wider range of choices for replacing the ink in printers.

There is no doubt, though, that the option to refill ink cartridges is one which is becoming increasingly popular. This is due to both a pricing element, and the effect which cartridge replacement has on the environment. If you can take your existing cartridge to a print shop and have it refilled, the refill will be ready in a matter of hours and you can then go back to printing. You will have saved money by not needing to buy another plastic cartridge, and you will also be helping the environment by keeping the old one out of landfill sites.

There is another dimension to the cartridge refill which could save even more money for institutions of the right size. This is the option to buy printer ink in bulk and carry out your own inkjet cartridge refill. Buying large quantities of any product is likely to work out cheaper per unit than buying smaller amounts, and ink is no different in this respect. The one consideration which must be borne in mind when doing this is that your staff will need to be trained in the skill of refilling cartridges, as you cannot afford to waste employee time just to save on ink prices.

Finding a supplier of ink cartridges or someone to carry out a cartridge refill is relatively easy. You may already know of a print shop in your own city where you can have ink cartridges refilled at a reasonable price. If not, take advantage of the possibilities offered by local search. As printers deal heavily through the Internet, they usually have their own websites set up and optimized for the search engines, making them easy to find. Once you have found a supplier of quality ink, you can keep returning every time you need a cartridge refill.
